Est. 2018

Clouded Leopard Day (C.L.D.) was established in 2018 by Lauren Amos and Dan Kemp in collaboration with zoos, charities, and individuals to increase awareness about these elusive cats and the challenges they face.

Quick Facts

Predator

Like all cats, clouded leopards hunt other animals for food. Clouded leopards hunt day and night, on the ground and in the trees!

Small Big Cats

Smaller than big cats, bigger than small cats... Clouded leopards are considered a "bridge" between the two groupings, but are most closely related to the big cats.

2 Species

There are 2 different species of clouded leopard: Indochinese and Sunda. The biggest difference between the two is where they live.

Protected

Since 1975, clouded leopards have been protected through the international agreement CITES. They are listed in Appendix I, meaning that they should receive the highest levels of protection.

Built for the Trees

Stocky stature, rotating ankles and an incredibly long tail are just a few adaptations that make clouded leopards some of the best climbers in the cat family.

Many Names

Indochinese clouded leopards are also known as Mainland clouded leopards and Sunda clouded leopards are either Sumatran or Bornean.

Elusive

Little is known about these cats and what is known is because of camera traps and estimations.

0-3,500

These cats can be found at various elevations as low as 0 meters to 3,500 meters. That's as high as the San Gorgonio Mountain in California.
